HART — A 64-year-old Montague man faces a minimum of five years in prison after pleading “no contest” Monday, Dec. 19, in 27th Circuit Court to one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct (CSC).
Michael Melvin Johnson, of 500 Fruitvale Rd., molested a female child under the age of 13 in 2008 in Grant Township, according to Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon.
Johnson initially faced three felony counts of first-degree CSC and one count of third-offense habitual offender. The other charges were dismissed in a plea deal that sets his minimum prison time at five years. Judge Anthony A. Monton will set Johnson’s maximum sentence.
Both the victim and her mother agreed to the plea deal, Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon said.
Johnson remains lodged in the Oceana County Jail on a $150,000 cash/surety bond, awaiting his Jan. 30 sentencing.
First-degree CSC carries a maximum life sentence.
