GRANT TOWNSHIP — Leon Balcom, 76, of Rothbury, who died of natural causes, was found in his vehicle on a two-track near 96th Avenue and McKinley Road Thursday, Dec. 8, at 2:29 p.m., according to the Hart post of the Michigan State Police.

The call was dispatched as a “dead on arrival” (DOA), and Central Dispatch stated that the subject found was a “deceased hunter.” The area where Balcom was found is Manistee National Forest land.

“There was nothing suspicious,” said MSP Sgt. Charles Hockanson.

No other information was immediately available, because the police report narrative had not been completed as of Friday morning.

The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene, according to OCSO Det. Shane Hasty.
