HART — A 42-year-old Hart man was sentenced to one year in jail for a conviction of attempted assault with intent to commit to great bodily harm less than murder in 27th Circuit Court Monday, Oct. 24.

Tony Jerome Lopez, of 314 Hart St., pleaded “no contest” to the charge last month.

In exchange for Lopez’s plea, felonies of assault with intent to commit to great bodily harm less than murder and unlawful imprisonment were dismissed. The plea agreement called for capping Lopez’s jail time at one year, said Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon.

Lopez, who has been lodged in the Oceana County Jail on a $25,000/cash/surety bond since his arrest, severely beat a female victim last June in the City of Hart. He received jail credit of 138 days.

Judge Anthony A. Monton also sentenced him to two years probation. Sentencing guidelines in the case are seven to 23 months.
