Mildred I. Lambrix, 92, of Pentwater, passed away Friday, October 14, 2016 in Hart.
She was born February 27, 1924 in New Plymouth, Ohio, the daughter of Isaac and Vernie (Sudlow) Mitchell.
Following the deaths of her mother (1930) and father (1936), Mildred was raised by her oldest sister Dorothy and husband Forrest (Dutch) Phillips in Newark, Ohio.
Mildred graduated from Newark High School in 1942. She attended Newark School of Nursing and became a registered nurse. Upon completion of nursing school, Mildred received a scholarship to attend D.T. Watson School of Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh. Her class was one of the first to be trained in modern physical therapy. Upon completion of the physical therapy courses, Mildred was requested to stay on and work with Dr. Jonas Salk in the new children’s polio clinic.
Mildred married Donald R. Lambrix on February 27, 1951 and moved to Pentwater. Mildred worked for Dr. Merle Wood in Hart before becoming the first physical therapist at the new Oceana County Medical Care Facility. She headed the physical therapy department for many years. Mildred was a mother first and enjoyed raising her children in Pentwater.
She was a member of Centenary Methodist Church., the Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, and a life member of the Pentwater Yacht Club. Mildred had been a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was a special friend to many.
She is survived by her sons: James Lambrix of Pentwater, Jeffrey Lambrix of Sarasota, Florida and Thomas (Diane) Lambrix of Grand Rapids; her grandsons: Timothy Lambrix of Grand Rapids and Christopher Lambrix of Pentwater.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; brothers: Flavious, Melvin, Oswald, Floyd, Hiram, William, and Edward Mitchell; and her sisters: Dorothy Phillips and Mary Ryan.
Mildred’s family would to thank the Oceana County Medical Care Facility staff for all the kindness shown to them and to their mother. A private graveside service will be held next spring for Mildred at Pentwater Township Cemetery.
