HART – District Health Department #10 (DHD#10) has a program that offers free mammograms.

Sign up is easy, and no appointment at the health department is necessary. Women seeking eligibility information or who would like to learn more, call (888) 217-3904, and select option # 2. Health department staff can easily get women enrolled and a mammogram ordered at the local hospital. Results will be mailed after the service is completed.

This free service is part of the women’s annual health screening offered to eligible women ages 40-64 who have no insurance coverage, or who have insurance, but have a high deductible plan.

Preventative screenings, including breast exams and mammograms, can be lifesaving. Through this service, DHD#10 is able to help women receive the preventative care they need regardless of insurance status or inability to pay.

“From the minute I started my experience with DHD#10, I couldn’t have met a more wonderful and caring group of women,” said Susan Trinklein, who received a free mammogram through DHD#10. “I got an appointment to have a mammogram and also a breast ultrasound. After several tests, I was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer. After surgery and radiation, I am cancer free for going on seven years. I will be forever thankful. All I had to worry about was getting well and not all the paperwork since it was handled at DHD#10.”

Susan’s story reminds women of the importance of scheduling a yearly mammogram.

This program is provided for residents of Crawford, Kalkaska, Lake, Manistee, Missaukee, Mason, Mecosta, Oceana, Newaygo, Wexford, and other surrounding counties. Women who are eligible and complete this screening service will receive a free $10 gas card for getting screened through the program. For additional information, visit www.dhd10.org.
