WEARE TOWNSHIP — Two people were transported to an area hospital following an early-morning crash Monday, Sept. 12, on West Jefferson Road west of Oceana Drive, according to an Oceana County Sheriff’s Office accident report.
An 84-year-old Pentwater man driving a 2006 Chevrolet sedan west on Jefferson Road at 5:15 a.m. ran a stop sign at the intersection, striking a 2015 Chevy sedan driven by a 25-year-old Ludington man, who was heading north on Oceana Drive. The 84-year-old man was cited for failure to yield. He and his passenger, a 54-year-old Pentwater woman, were injured in the crash. The other driver was not injured, according to the report.
“Driver #1 failed to stop at the intersection where there is a stop sign and struck Driver #2,” the report states. “Driver #1 was at fault for the accident for failure to yield the right-of-way and issued a citation. Air bags deployed on both vehicles. Driver #1 and the passenger were taken to Lakeshore Hospital by Oceana EMS for treatment. Both vehicles suffered heavy damage and were towed away.”
All three involved in the crash were wearing seat belts, the accident report states.
