HART — A 64-year-old Montague man faces three felony counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct (CSC) and one count of third-offense habitual offender in 27th Circuit Court for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13.
Michael Melvin Johnson, of 500 Fruitvale Rd., allegedly molested the child in 2008 in Grant Township, according to Oceana County Prosecutor Joseph Bizon.
Johnson, who waived his preliminary exam in 78th District Court, recently removed his paid attorney Matthew Miller from the case and reinstated public defender Julie Springstead Waltz, Bizon said.
Johnson is scheduled for a status conference in circuit court Sept. 12 at 9 a.m. He remains lodged in the Oceana County Jail on a $150,000 cash/surety bond.
First-degree CSC carries a maximum life sentence.
