We would like to express our deep gratitude to those who responded to the fishing accident that took the life of Steven Jay Bruce on August 14: The US Coast Guard, Oceana County Sheriff’s Department Marine Division, Michigan State Police Dive and Rescue Team, Pentwater Police, Oceana EMS, Mason County Sheriff’s Department, Ludington Police Department, Muskegon County Sheriff’s Department Marine Division, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department Marine Division, and so many of Steve’s friends in our community who searched using their own planes and boats. We cannot find the words to express our appreciation for your commitment to the search and your unstinting efforts on Steve’s behalf.
Steve was a generous man with a big heart. Your determined efforts to find him, above and beyond the call of duty, show your compassion for those who are hurting. Thank you.
Thanks also to Coldwell Banker Woodland Schmidt for providing meals for the rescue workers, and to all who have supported us with your prayers and expressions of sympathy during this very difficult time.
The community outpouring of empathy and support has been overwhelming.
A service to remember Steve’s life will be held at Hart Congregational U.C.C. at 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 3.
