GARFIELD TOWNSHIP — An 84-year-old Amish man, who was operating a horse and buggy, was airlifted to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids following a crash on M-82 between Fremont and Newaygo Tuesday, Aug. 2, at 6:05 p.m., according to the Hart post of the Michigan State Police.

The man, who is from Fremont, is in critical condition, and his horse died, according to MSP Sgt. Ronald Nelson.

The horse and buggy were struck by a pickup truck hauling a trailer that was driven by a 16-year-old Newaygo boy. The boy was not injured in the crash, Nelson said, and there were no passengers in his vehicle.

Also responding to the scene were the Newaygo County Sheriff’s Office and the Newaygo City Police Department.
