CROTON TOWNSHIP, (Newaygo County) — A 46-year-old Howard City man died Sunday night, July 3, after shooting a homemade cannon that exploded, according to the Hart post of the Michigan State Police.
Anthony Ernest Herman was pronounced dead at the scene.
“On July 3, 2016, at 10:46 p.m., Newaygo County Central Dispatch received a 911 call for medical assistance from an address in Croton Township, Newaygo County,” states an MSP press release issued Monday, July 4. “The caller advised that a male subject was possibly in cardiac arrest and an ambulance was requested. Life EMS and first responders were dispatched to the scene. Troopers from the Michigan State Police were also dispatched to the scene.”
“Troopers arrived on scene to find that CPR was already in progress and continued until Life EMS arrived on scene and took over lifesaving efforts. At 11:29 p.m., Anthony Ernest Herman, 46, of Howard City, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Investigation at the scene revealed the male victim had been shooting a homemade cannon when the cannon exploded and a piece of metal may have struck the subject’s chest.
“Michigan State Police were assisted at the scene by Life EMS, Croton Township fire and first responders, Newaygo fire and first responders, Newaygo County Sheriff’s Department, and the Newaygo County Medical Examiner’s Office.”
