CRYSTAL TOWNSHIP — A 39-year-old Walkerville woman and her child received minor injuries Wednesday afternoon, June 29, when the 1999 Mercury Mountaineer they were traveling in rear-ended an Oceana County Road Commission tractor that was mowing the grass along the shoulder of Madison Road near 156th Avenue.
The woman hit the rear tractor tire; lost control of the Mountaineer; and went into the ditch on the south side of Madison Road, said Oceana County Sheriff’s Deputy Dean Wiegand. The Mountaineer rolled onto its top when it landed in the grass. Both the tractor and the Mountaineer were westbound on Madison Road, Wiegand said.
Both the woman and her child were taken by Oceana EMS to Lakeshore Hospital in Shelby. It appears that the woman was wearing a seatbelt, Wiegand said, the child was restrained in a child booster seat. The Mountaineer’s airbags deployed. Crystal Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
The road commission tractor was driven by a 48-year-old Twin Lake man who was not injured, Wiegand said. The 1:57 p.m. crash remains under investigation.
