SHELBY — A 21-year-old Shelby man was arrested on charges of fleeing and eluding police, possession of marijuana and driving without insurance Thursday night, June 16, following a high-speed chase through the county.

“Deputies were given a ‘be on the lookout’ for a pickup truck with a Confederate flag doing donuts in the Stony Lake Oval parking lot,” said Oceana County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Craig Mast.

The Dodge pickup was located going through the Village of Shelby, where the pursuit began at 9:11 p.m., Mast said. The chase started on Shelby Road and proceeded through the county on county and seasonal roads, he said. Speeds exceeded 70 mph. No one was injured.

The chase finally ended in the 1700 block of S. 48th Avenue, where the suspect was taken into custody.
