June 1, 2016

FullSizeRender 389SILVER LAKE — The first-ever Silver Lake Sand Dune Jeep Invasion is set for this weekend, June 3-5, which is dedicated to Jeep owners for some food, dunes and fun.

The weekend kicks off Friday night at the Golden Sand Golf and Bucket Bar for a meet-and-greet. The Jeep show and parade registration is set for 5-9 p.m. Those pre-registered can pick up a swag bag and free hot dog dinner. There will be a live band, draft trailer, bouncy house and over 400 Jeeps to check out. SLSD Jeep Invasion T-shirts will be available for purchase.

A parade heading into the dunes is set for Saturday. Lineup at Golden Sands is from 7:30-9 a.m. The parade of Jeeps to the dunes ORV area begins at 9 a.m. The Jeeps will drive to the designated Jeep Show area. All Jeeps must have proper tags, air and flags to participate. The Jeep Show will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Awards and trophies will be bestowed for People’s Choice, Best Stock, Best Mod and Best Classic Jeep.

“The number of people coming to the event is unbelievable,” said Hide-a-way Campground owner Dale Kolosci. “I was bored one Sunday in January and out in the garage working on my Jeep. I put a post out to see if anyone was interested in a Jeep weekend. The response was instant, so I thought I better have a Jeep event. I thought I might get 30-40 Jeeps. I never expected it would get big so quickly. I don’t know if I should be excited or nervous.”

There will be vendor show at the Golden Park Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Fourth Annual Blessing of the Duners is set for Sunday at the dunes’ designated blessing area. The invasion coincides with the Sunday blessing ceremony as well as the Tunes, Brews, and Dunes Festival on Saturday.

The invasion was made possible through many volunteers and local businesses sponsoring the event.
