LEAVITT TOWNSHIP — Two men in their 20s were transported by Oceana County EMS to an area hospital following a single-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon, May 19, on Van Buren Road near 188th Avenue.

The 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck hit a tree after veering off the road, said Oceana County Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Schiller. The passenger was pinned inside the truck. Both men sustained “non-life-threatening” injuries in the crash, Schiller said. Speed may have been a factor, he said.

The driver told deputies he was westbound on Van Buren Road and was going around a curve when he said that he saw another vehicle in his lane.

“They are very fortunate,” Schiller said that they were not more seriously hurt.
