A “substation issue” caused approximately 1,445 Great Lakes Energy customers in Oceana and Muskegon counties to be without power for several hours Wednesday morning, May 11, said GLE Communications Director Dave Guzniczak.

Central Dispatch reported a sparking transformer on Webster Road near 56th and 60th avenues in Grant Township at approximately 5:30 a.m.

Guzniczak said 333 customers in Grant Township were affected and 310 in Claybanks Township. In Muskegon County’s White River Township, there were 701 affected, and 101 in Montague Township.

Power was expected to be restored within a few hours of the outage. “It should be quite short in duration,” Guzniczak said.
