HART — Maxwell Turple, 28, and Kimberly Cushman, 31, both of 3585 N. Maple Island Rd., Hesperia, were arraigned in 78th District Court on a felony charge of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police stemming from an altercation Sunday night in Newfield Township in which a taser was deployed by police in order to restrain them.
Turple also faces a felony count of firearms – short-barrelled rifle – manufacture/transfer/possess.
Both are scheduled for a preliminary exam conference May 10 at 3 p.m.
The pair were were arrested after allegedly assaulting deputies from Oceana and Newaygo counties.
A short-barrelled shotgun was seized by police, said Oceana County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Craig Mast.
Both alcohol and drugs are believed to be factors in the incident. The deputies suffered only minor injuries.
According to their court files, Turple posted 10 percent of a $5,000 bond and has been released from jail. Cushman’s bond, according to her court file, has not been posted. It was also set at $5,000/10 percent.
