NEWFIELD TOWNSHIP — A single-story home at 1917 S. 200th Ave. near Hesperia was destroyed in a fire Wednesday afternoon, April 20. No one was inside the house, and no one was injured in the blaze that was reported shortly before 1 p.m.
Firefighters from Hesperia, Walkerville, Ferry and Fremont battled the blaze. Oceana County Sheriff’s deputies also assisted at the scene.
A neighbor called 911 to report the fire, said Hesperia Fire Chief Bob Eichenberg.
“The fire was going pretty good when we arrived, but we got it knocked down quickly,” Eichenberg said.
The home owner’s name was not immediately available, and it was not immediately known whether the home was insured. The home is a total loss, Eichenberg said.
The cause of the fire is not known at this point.
