Tiger Science Olympiad team finishes 2nd, qualifies for state.

shelby sci olympiadALMA — The Shelby High School Science Olympiad Team had such a strong performance in regional competition last weekend at Alma College, the Tigers took second place and qualified for the state tournament.

Although, conflicts with prom and other activities resulted in the team declining the invitation to the state competition at Michigan State University April 30, said Tiger Science Olympiad Coach Pete Peterson.

“We had a great day at the regional competition, and our students competed well. Great job, team,” said Peterson.

Shelby Middle School also competed for the first time and placed seventh.

Tiger medalists include:

First place: Olivia Mussell and Sarajane Fortier, Anatomy and Physiology;

Second place: Holli Schlukebir, Kodi Foster and Katelyn Brown, Protein Modeling;

Second place: Natalie Fox and Katelyn Brown, Write It/Do It;

Second place: Logan Peterson and Katelyn Brown, Air Trajectory;

Third place: Dylan Berens and Natalie Fox, Geologic Mapping;

Third place: Dylan Berens and Halle Walborn, Wright Stuff;

Fourth place: Abby Bahena, Dane Clement and Charles Martel, Electric Vehicle.
