CRYSTAL TOWNSHIP — A couple who allegedly racked up a nearly $55 bill for food and drinks at Kristi’s Pour House Tuesday night, March 22, was arrested by Oceana County Sheriff’s deputies on charges of defrauding an innkeeper, according to Lt. Craig Mast.
Stephen Woody, 43, and Shannon West, 36, left the bar without paying for their tab after Woody “became belligerent and threatened the bartender,” Mast said.
Some male patrons witnessed the alleged crime and followed the couple, who went to a nearby residence, Mast said. “They watched to couple go in,” he said.
When deputies arrived in the early morning hours Wednesday, they made contact with the couple inside the residence, Mast said. Woody was arrested on scene, and West was arrested later that day after a warrant was issued by the Oceana County Prosecutor’s Office, Mast said.
Woody, formerly from the Marquette area, is currently homeless, Mast said. West is from the Hart area.
Defrauding an innkeeper is a 90-day misdemeanor, and penalties normally require paying restitution.
Kristi’s Pour House, located at 7203 N. 126th Ave., is the former Crystal Valley Tavern.
