New Michigan Works position to help area businesses.

SHELBY – Michigan Works! West Central is pleased to announce the appointment of Merri Bennett in the newly-created role of business services specialist.

In her role, Bennett will represent Michigan Works! West Central in partnering with area economic development, education, and training organizations to help better serve businesses in Mason and Oceana counties.

“We are very excited to add this new position to our team,” said Michelle Rasmussen, business services director at Michigan Works! West Central. “So many people know how we help job seekers in our six-county service area, but are unaware of how much we can help employers as well. Having Merri on board with us will be a great resource for our area employers.”

Bennett, a former Miss Ludington, recently returned to the area to be closer to family. Prior to leaving Michigan, she worked as a television news anchor in Traverse City and Lansing. Prior to joining Michigan Works! she worked as a communication and media relations director in Florida and as a performer and entertainment supervisor at Walt Disney World.

Bennett received her bachelor’s degree in broadcast communication from Central Michigan University.

Michigan Works! West Central is located at 195 N. Michigan Avenue in Shelby and offers services to both employers and job seekers. For employers, they offer assistance with recruitment, posting job opportunities, hosting job fairs, locating training dollars for new and existing employers, and more. For job seekers, they help with resume/cover letter writing, creating and posting resumes and profiles on Pure Michigan Talent Connect, and other employment-related services. Various classroom and on-the-job training opportunities may also be available for adults, dislocated workers, and youth through several available funding sources.
