Dual enrollment scholarships available at West Shore.

VICTORY TOWNSHIP – West Shore Community College officials have announced that scholarships are now available to high school students who are taking dual enrollment courses.

The scholarships are provided through a gift to the College’s foundation by Hardman Construction Company of Ludington. The scholarships will be based on financial need and a record of academic achievement. Dual enrolled students earn credit toward their high school degree while obtaining college credit at the same time and the classes are identical to those offered and taught at the College.

All instructors of these courses meet the education credential standards set by the Higher Learning Commission, the college’s accrediting agency and are designed to transfer to public and private colleges and universities in Michigan through articulation agreements.

Dr. Kenneth Urban, WSCC president, expressed appreciation to Hardman Construction for providing the funds to establish the scholarship program. “Through this program, Hardman Construction will be helping some very deserving students achieve their dreams while building our area’s future. I commend them for their vision and generosity.”

Developing a strong workforce is a key to the viability of our community’s future and we believe this fund will benefit those who need a little extra help with the cost of participating in these classes,” said Todd Schrader, president of Hardman Construction.

The College is accepting scholarship applications from students who plan to attend for the 2016-17 academic year. The deadline to apply for scholarships is April 17.

The College, the WSCC Foundation, community groups and private donors offer numerous scholarships to fit nearly all student academic records, backgrounds, and financial situations.

WSCC’s web site lists many of the scholarships and gives a brief description and the general eligibility requirements for each. An admission application must be completed to be eligible for scholarships.
