HART — Spitler Elementary students this spring will have the unique opportunity to walk with heroes — not the cliché caped crusaders or masked marvels from comic books, but the real everyday heroes who work tirelessly to make our community a better place to live.
Local veterans, law enforcement, emergency medical personnel, firefighters, and other public servants will be encouraged to walk with students and their families in the 2016 Walk-A-Thon, April 28. The goal of this event is to honor local heroes, while celebrating the funds raised to support Spitler Elementary in a fun, healthy, and family-friendly way.
Contributions are needed to make this event a reality. Local business owners, community organizations, and other concerned citizens are being asked to support this Spitler Elementary Parent Teacher Organization (PT0) fundraiser. Donations of all kinds, and in any amount, are welcome. Both raffle items and monetary contributions are needed to help off-set event costs. Donated prizes that promote physical activity and fitness are encouraged. Gifts are also being accepted to directly benefit the PTO fund. Donors will be mentioned in event promotions and advertising.
“We are very excited to announce this new fundraiser that we hope will become an annual event,” said Jeff Schaner, PTO Co-President, and Spitler Elementary father. “This is a great opportunity for the community to come together for our young people. Since this is the only PTO fundraiser for the school year, we are hoping for a great showing of support from both students, and local businesses and organizations.”
Money raised through this event will be used to enhance educational programming opportunities and experiences at Spitler Elementary, such as purchasing classroom supplies and funding field trips.
The Walk-A-Thon will be the only Spitler Elementary fundraiser sponsored by the PTO this school year.
It is set for April 28 from 5-7 p.m. at the Hart High School track. Further details will be released closer to the event date. Look for updates on the Spitler Elementary Facebook page and website.
