Termite Bridge gate damaged; police seek info.

GOLDEN TOWNSHIP — The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a hit-and-run crash that caused extensive damage to the gate at Termite Bridge at the Silver Lake State Park.

Deputies were dispatched to the scene Friday, Jan. 29, and it appears the  gate was damaged the previous night.    

“Someone had damaged the gate very badly,” said Lt. Craig Mast. “It appears that a truck hit the gate and became stuck on the gate; then used a reciprocating saw to cut the gate to free the truck.”

The gate is state property and prohibits access across Termite Bridge into the concession area of the dunes, according to the incident report. It is not anticipated to be repaired until spring, the report states.
