GRANT TOWNSHIP — A 31-year-old Rothbury man was jailed early this morning following a high speed chase with Oceana County sheriff’s deputies. Lt. Craig Mast said a deputy witnessed the man failing to yield for a stop sign on southbound Oceana Drive in New Era at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015. Mast said the deputy activated his lights and siren and then the suspect proceeded to flee in speeds exceeding 100 mph.

The suspect turned east onto Cleveland Road, went off the road and struck a small snow bank, then was able to get back onto the roadway continuing to 88th Avenue where he attempted to turn south. The driver then lost control of the vehicle, went off the roadway, and struck a utility pole, which caused extensive damage to the vehicle.

The suspect then fled on foot from the vehicle and was chased by a deputy. Mast said the deputy was able to overtake the suspect quickly.

The man was arrested and charged with fleeing and eluding; operating a vehicle while intoxicated, third offense; and possession of an open container of alcohol. He is lodged in the Oceana County Jail awaiting arraignment.
