ROTHBURY — A home at 2622 W. Winston Rd. was totally destroyed in a fire Monday night, Dec. 21.

No one was injured in the blaze, said Grant Township Fire Chief Roland Brooks. Both people who lived in the home were at work at the time the fire ignited, Brooks said.

A neighbor spotted the fire and called 911, the chief said. The house is located across the road from the Barber Steel Foundry, formerly Kurdziel Iron.

Red Cross has been called to assist the victims, and Brooks said he is going to contact the Crystal Valley Care Fund for additional assistance to the victims who lost their home just days before Christmas.

Firefighters from Grant Township, Montague and Shelby-Benona were dispatched to the scene at 8:59 p.m. The scene was cleared at 11:30 p.m. Brooks said the Oceana County Fire Investigation Team was being sent to the scene this morning to determine the cause.
