‘Women Who Care’ to meet Dec. 1; more than $130,000 contributed to local nonprofits

November 14, 2015

Women Who CareMEARS — Oceana’s Women Who Care (WWC) are ready to make a difference for another area nonprofit when they meet Dec. 1 at Open Hearth Grille, 2430 N. 56th Ave.

Attendees will hear from an Oceana Home Partnership representative, who will explain how OHP is using the more than $13,000 it has received after WWC members three months ago chose the organization to receive their $100 personal checks.

On the first Tuesday in March, June, September and December, members meet at an area restaurant from 5:30-6:30 p.m.; learn about three worthy causes serving county residents; and choose one that everyone agrees to support with $100 personal checks. Socializing follows for those who have the time to stay.

The group is midway through its fourth year and has so far contributed more than $130,000 to 14 nonprofit organizations serving Oceana residents.

Membership, currently at 138, is open to any woman who wants to be involved in this unique, joint effort to support Oceana causes. Students are welcome to join if they pledge to contribute $50 to the chosen nonprofit at each quarterly meeting.
