LEAVITT TWP. — A full truckload of butternut squash spilled out of a semi truck when it tipped over Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 27, on Taylor Road and 198th Avenue near Walkerville.
The truck driver, a 31-year-old man, was transported by Oceana County EMS to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, said Oceana County Sheriff’s Deputy Tim Simon, who was at the scene. It appeared that the truck tipped over when it came around the corner, although the crash is under investigation. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and no one else was riding in the truck, according to Simon.
The truck was apparently hauling the load of squash from a local farm.
Walkerville Fire Department assisted at the scene. Rescue personnel were on scene for at least two hours, cleaning up the spill.
