Beer Fest, Adults Only night on tap at Double JJ

GRANT TWP. — Double JJ Resort co-owner Norm Halbower has been making a lot of improvements to the ranch since he and his son, Matthew, took over ownership, and he is focused on adding more fun events.

The next two weekends certainly aim at fun. Beer Fest is set for this Saturday, Oct. 24, from 1-4 p.m., and next Saturday, Oct. 31, is an Adults Only Night. Both events take place in the Back Forty.

Every Saturday night during October, the resort is giving away two ticket vouchers for Electric Forest Festival 2016. With attendance to any of the events, you are entered into a drawing to win. You must be present at the time of the drawing, which takes place after the band’s performance in the Back 40 Dance Hall.

Beer Fest – Saturday, Oct. 24

Double JJ partnered with Alliance Distributors this fall to bring in beer from local breweries and microbreweries.

There will be 22 different beers to sample, Halbower said.

For $10, you can buy a 3-ounce shot glass with 10 tasting tickets (this goes for wine or beer). Or, you can purchase a 14-ounce beer mug for $15, which includes tickets for your first fill up. Other fill ups are $2 for domestic beers and $3 for craft beers inside the bars or an equivalent amount of tickets at the fest.

There will be a Sam Adams Stein Hoisting Contest during Beer Fest.

The local competition could lead to a final prize of a trip to Germany for Oktoberfest in a national contest. Contestants will see how long they can hoist a full stein at arm’s length in front or to their side. They will be timed, and an Alliance Beverage representative will be the final judge.

The best times for both men and women will move on to eventually be included in the national competition. The best times in the nation, at the end of the competition year, will then compete at the national level, and the eventual winners will be awarded the grand prizes. This year’s winners won trips to Oktoberfest in Germany.

Adults Only Night – Saturday, Oct. 31

Double JJ is hosting the event Saturday, Oct. 31, at Shooter’s for a mixer; a pig roast; a Halloween costume contest; and a late-night swim in the Gold Rush Water Park.

The mixer starts at 4 p.m.; followed by the pig roast beginning at 6 p.m.; and live music at 8 p.m. Costumes will be judged during the band’s intermission. The late-night swim begins at midnight.

Rooms are available to attendees at discounted rates that night.

Halbower said he plans to add more fun events over holiday season as well.
