Ohio woman dies following dune crash

GOLDEN TWP. — Leslyn Marie Yowell, 49, of Grove City, Ohio died following a crash on Test Hill in the ORV area of Silver Lake State Park Saturday, Oct. 17, at 1:34 p.m.

Yowell was riding in the backseat in a 2012 Jeep Wrangler driven by her husband, according to the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office. She was wearing a seatbelt, and drugs and alcohol are not suspected.

“Oceana County Central Dispatch received an emergency call advising there had just been a rollover type of accident,” states an OCSO press release. “The original call stated there was still one person trapped in the vehicle. When state park staff arrived on scene, they found a 2012 Jeep Wrangler still on its top with one occupant still trapped inside. When the state park staff, deputies and EMS personnel were able to extricate the victim, they found she’d suffered serious injuries to which she passed away from a short time later.”     

Hart Area Fire Department was also dispatched to the scene. 

The accident remains under investigation.

In addition to this accident, two other crashes in the ORV area at the state park involving injuries were reported to central dispatch Saturday within a little over a two-hour period.
