Rail trail work nearing completion

September 30, 2015

SHELBY — Work on the northern portion of the William Field Memorial Hart-Montague Rail Trail from Shelby to Hart is nearing completion and is expected to be reopened for use either late this week or early next week, according to Leo Evans, assistant construction engineer for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).

The parking lot on Polk Road will also be reopened at that time, Evans stated.

“Once the northern section of the trail is reopened, the middle portion from Rothbury to Shelby will be closed for reconstruction.  Work on that section is expected to take four to five weeks to complete and is scheduled to be reopened in early November,” he added.
