September 27, 2015

united wayOCEANA COUNTY – Day of Caring, an annual event which brings volunteers together for projects benefiting Oceana County, is set for Saturday, Oct. 3. United Way volunteers will help The Ladder Community Center, neighborhoods in Shelby, and Bread of Life Food Pantry in Hart. The morning’s projects will include cleaning, painting, yard work, small home repairs, and various other projects.

“Day of Caring is a great opportunity to have fun; meet new people; help your neighbors; and to be the change you want to see in our community. United, we CAN make a difference,” said Dawn Riley, Oceana County chairperson.

This annual event allows community members the opportunity to take a vested interest in our community and also provides area students, youth groups, sports teams, and groups representing their place of work with the opportunity to give back.

Volunteers are needed from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.; followed by a continental breakfast; with the projects wrapping up at 11:30 a.m.; followed by lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. served at the Congregational Church in Shelby provided by The Ladder Community Center, the Congregational Church, the United Methodist Church, the Shelby Wesleyan Church and Iglesia Manatial De Vida. Volunteers are requested to bring work gloves, a broom, a rake, and tools for small repair jobs if available.
