Hart Rotary to host mobile food pantry

September 20, 2015

HART — The Hart Rotary Club, in conjunction with United Way of the Lakeshore, is sponsoring a food truck in which 10,000 pounds of food will be distributed Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Spitler Elementary School parking lot.

The Feeding America mobile food pantry will be able to feed 200 families and individuals in Oceana County who are need of assistance.

In order for individuals and communities to thrive, food is essential. Food banking is a proven solution to two critical global problems: hunger and food waste. There is enough food to feed the world, but one-third of it is wasted, never nourishing a hungry person. Food banks rescue perfectly edible, nutritious surplus food before it is wasted and redistribute it to feed the hungry. This food comes from a number of sources, including food manufacturers, grocery stores, restaurants and farms.

The Hart Rotary Club has been serving the community for more than 60 years, and the mobile food pantry project exemplifies the Rotary motto – Service Above Self.  For additional information, call 231-638-6934.

United Way of the Lakeshore works to advance the common good by focusing on education, income and health in Oceana, Muskegon and Newaygo counties. For more information about its services, contact United Way of the Lakeshore at 231-722-3134.
