School district remains closed due to mold

September 9, 2015

HESPERIA — Moldy carpeting in five classrooms has delayed the start of the school year at Hesperia Community Schools for two days.

Superintendent Mike Corey said in an email that school will be closed again Wednesday, Sept. 9, to complete the cleaning process before school starts with a full day of school Thursday, Sept. 10.

The mold was found Monday, Sept. 7, causing officials to cancel school on the first day back from summer break Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The surface mold in the carpeting “materialized” over the weekend, and it was discovered Monday afternoon, Corey said. It was caused by the extreme heat and humidity, he said.
