HART — A 26-year-old Shelby man has been arrested for his involvement in a hit and run accident that took place on Hayes Road in Shelby Township on July 24, 2015. Patrick Fay George, 64 S. Michigan Ave., Apt. 104, Shelby, has been charged with three felony counts. He was arrested Tuesday when deputies from Oceana County Sheriff’s Office served him a warrant. His girlfriend was also arrested for her involvement in the incident.

Skateboarder Mitchell Gray Mather, 17, received up to five fractures to his leg when he was struck by a 1997 silver four-door Ford Taurus on West Hayes Road near 72nd Avenue at 10:22 p.m. on July 24. He underwent reconstructive surgery at Hackley Campus Mercy Health Muskegon as a result of the injuries.

The driver fled the scene, and a passenger returned to the scene on foot, OCSO Lt. Craig Mast told OCP. The Taurus was later recovered and impounded, Mast said, and the Mason County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit was called in to track the area.

Charges include operating a vehicle, while license suspended, revoked or denied, causing serious injury, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and/or $1,000 to $5,000 in fines and vehicle forfeiture; failure to stop at a scene of an accident resulting in serious impairment or death, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and/or $5,000. He was also charged with being a habitual offender, second offense, which could extend a sentence up to 7.5 years.

George has been arraigned in 78th District Court with bond set at $25,000.

UPDATED: George’s girlfriend, Abigail Delight Dutton, 27, of Shelby, was also arrested and charged with harboring a fugitive.
