WEARE TWP. — Mason-Oceana 911, in conjunction with Oceana County ARES/RACES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service/Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service), will host a free, six week class on Monday nights that will instruct students on the fundamentals of amateur (also called “ham”) radio communication.
The curriculum is based on the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) Technician license curriculum. The classes will be instructed by Mason-Oceana 911 Director Ray Hasil, Oceana County ARES Emergency Coordinator Dave Robertson and Newaygo County Systems Technician Tim Deater.
At the end of class, students will have the knowledge to take and pass the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) technician license exam at the Mason-Oceana 911 facility on a date to be determined. There is no cost to take the class and there is no age minimum.
Classes are approximately two hours each and begin Monday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. at the Mason-Oceana 911 Emergency Operation Center (EOC) located at: Mason-Oceana 911, 9160 N Oceana Dr., Pentwater, MI 49449.
