SHELBY TWP. — Police have issued a warrant for the arrest of a driver who fled the scene of a crash that injured a 17-year-old Shelby man on a skateboard July 24, but they are still looking for the suspect, said Lt. Craig Mast of the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday, Aug. 11.

The skateboarder received up to five fractures to his leg when he was struck by a 1997 silver four-door Ford Taurus on West Hayes Road near 72nd Avenue at 10:22 p.m. He underwent reconstructive surgery at Hackley Campus Mercy Health Muskegon as a result of the injuries.

The driver fled the scene, and a passenger returned to the scene on foot, Mast said previously. The Taurus was later recovered and impounded, Mast said, and the Mason County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit was called in to track the area.

Police are not releasing any information about the suspect at this time.
