OCSO cruiserOCEANA COUNTY — Two local businesses, the Whippy Dip in Silver Lake and the Boathouse Bar and Grill in Pentwater, were broken into over the July Fourth holiday, with intruders taking approximately $2,000 and the surveillance system DVR screen from the ice cream shop.

A Keno machine modem was taken and the cash register was damaged during the Boathouse break-in, although no money was reported missing, according to the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office.

Both businesses were burglarized some time during the early morning hours of July 5. The incident at the Whippy Dip, located at N. 18th Ave., occurred some time between 1 and 9 a.m. The break-in at the Boathouse, located 5164 W. Monroe Rd., took place some time between 1:30 and 11 a.m., according to the police reports.

Intruders forced open a backdoor at Whippy Dip by either prying it open or kicking it in, according to the police report. A storage shed door was also opened, but nothing appeared to be missing from the shed.

Intruders entered the Boathouse through an unlocked cooler door on the east side of the business.
