DNR offers bear hunting clinic.

The Department of Natural Resources will offer bear hunting clinics in Cadillac and Escanaba in August. The clinics will be held at DNR Pocket Park in Escanaba Aug. 1 and at the Carl T. Johnson Hunt and Fish Center in Cadillac Aug. 8, 9 and 15.

The class will run 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students will learn the ins and outs of bear hunting with experienced hunters and DNR educators. The class will cover habitat, gear, stand placement, baiting, rules and regulations, carcass care, and hide care. Participants will spend three to four hours in the classroom and then hit the trail to learn how to place a stand and bait in the woods.

The DNR Pocket Park is located inside the Upper Peninsula State Fair grounds at 2401 12th Ave. North in Escanaba.

The Carl T. Johnson Hunt and Fish Center is located at 6087 E. M-115 in Cadillac, in Mitchell State Park. A Recreation Passport is required for entry into the state park.
