Driver who crashed into power pole cited for careless driving

OCSO cruiserThe driver who fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a power pole Monday, June 29, at 6:30 a.m. on Monroe Road at the old Trading Post store near Pentwater was cited for careless driving, according to the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office.
The 20-year-old Beverly Hills, Mich. man “was fatigued and fell asleep as he was headed west bound,” stated Lt. Craig Mast. “He crossed the center line and the oncoming eastbound lane and went off the road into the driveway of the old Trading Post store where he hit a power pole owned by Consumer’s Power. The driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Oceana County EMS, although he refused any further treatment or transfer from the scene.”
The driver was wearing a seatbelt, and the airbags deployed in the 2013 Ford Focus he was driving, according to the OCSO accident report. There was a passenger in the Focus, according to the report, but there were no details about the passenger.
