A Review by Kay Brennan. Hesperia Community Library Director.
Are you Interested in travel in your own beautiful state? “Under the Radar: Michigan” is the show for you. This is a PBS series of 30-minute shows now available on DVD and includes a book of information about each program.
Host Tom Daldin explores big towns and small from Ann Arbor to Marquette. He talks to local people and features restaurants, activities, places to stay and entertainment. You might want to plan a road trip based on this series. You could stop at Arcadia Dunes and enjoy the scenery; stay at a bed and breakfast in Charlevoix; and end your journey in Marquette for a bite at Donckers. The Doncker’s handcrafted candy and caramels are a highlight of the meal.
There are also episodes about the west side of the state including a great segment about the luge run in the Muskegon area and riding the dunes at Silver Lake. Watch Tom, as he drives a race car around a track in South Haven, learns to fight in Ann Arbor like they do in the movies and kayaks in the Thumb area. Daldin is very entertaining, and you have the feeling he features real people and activities you and your family would enjoy. Even if you don’t intend to travel, these programs are fun to watch.
Season 1- 4 DVDs are available at the Hesperia Community Library.
