SHELBY — A 52-year-old New Era woman received minor injuries Easter Sunday, April 5, shortly before noon when the 2003 Monte Carlo she was driving struck a power pole on Oceana Drive near Kelly Street by the Clark gas station. Oceana Drive was shut down between Baker Road and Grant Street for at least an hour as emergency crews waited for Consumers Energy to arrive on scene to shut the power off, so they could safely remove the woman from the car.

Oceana County Sheriff’s Office, Oceana County EMS, Shelby-Benona Fire Department and the Hart post of the Michigan State Police were dispatched to the scene.

Deputy Mark Hiddema of the OCSO said the woman, who was wearing a seatbelt, was southbound on Oceana Drive when her wheels locked up; she lost control of the car; and hit the power pole. Hiddema said he was planning to get more information from the woman, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, after she was removed from the wreckage. Consumers arrived on scene at approximately 1 p.m.
