PENTWATER TWP. — A home that had been built just two years ago at 6909 Hilltop Court in the Madison Ridge Subdivision received extensive interior damage due to a fire Wednesday night, March 25. No one was injured in the blaze, but the homeowners’ cat could not immediately be found.

pwt fire -3Pentwater and Hart fire departments were dispatched to the scene at about 10:30 p.m., and some units were beginning to clear the scene shortly before midnight. Central Dispatch reported that the chimney caught fire. A portion of the roof had collapsed, and flames were seen coming from the roof, according to Central Dispatch.

It was not immediately known what caused the blaze. Homeowner Doug Bacon said he and his wife, Ginny, were inside the home when “it became obvious” their house on fire. He said the house has a fireplace, and a fire had been going earlier that day. The home is insured, he said.

Shortly after he called 911, he went back inside the house in an attempt to get their cat, but was unable to find it. The cat apparently became scared and was hiding somewhere inside the home.
