GRANT TWP. — A fire that destroyed a trailer Wednesday night, March 11, has been deemed “suspicious,” Grant Township Fire Chief Roland Brooks said Thursday, and the Oceana County Fire Investigation Team is scheduled to investigate the scene this afternoon.

The trailer, which is described as a “real old trailer” was not insured, Brooks said. No one was injured in the blaze.

The trailer is located at 7140 West Shore Dr. off of Meadow Lane near 88th Avenue in a trailer park or subdivision known as Oceana Shores.

Brooks confirmed that the unoccupied trailer was not a meth lab. However, the fire is suspicious because it was not being heated since no one was living there. The trailer is owned by John Morgan of Muskegon, and it was a rental unit, Brooks said. Morgan’s rental units are managed by Juan Martinez, the chief said. Morgan had liability insurance on the trailer in the event of injury, but no homeowner’s insurance due to its age, he said.

Grant Township and Shelby-Benona fire departments were dispatched to the scene at 9:39 p.m., Brooks said, and cleared the scene at 12:15 a.m.
