Regional high school art competition at WSCC.

VICTORY TWP. (Mason Co.) – The West Shore Community College Art Department is hosting the 17^th annual Regional High School Art Competition and Exhibit in the college’s Manierre Dawson Gallery.

An artist reception will be held on Sun., March 15, from 2-3:30 p.m. Student artwork will be displayed through March 27.

Sponsored by the West Shore Community College Foundation and the WSCC Art Department, ribbons will be awarded for first and second place in jewelry, sculpture, pottery, drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, video, textiles, and mixed media.

Area high schools have been invited to enter 10 of their students’ best works and those included in the exhibit have been selected by high school art teachers.

The juror for this year’s show is Josh Gove. A native of St. Johns, Gove graduated from Alma College with honors in 2014, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts specializing in drawing and painting and a minor in art history.

Gove spent his years at Alma studying and creating art around the world taking classes in Spain and France, as well as being involved in the creative community of the school.

He was the president of the Kappa Pi Art Honorary, served as both gallery assistant and assistant director of the Flora Kirsch Beck Art Gallery, and was a staff member and art director of the Pine River Anthology, an annual student made publication featuring student art and literature.

The Manierre Dawson Gallery is located in the Arts and Sciences Center. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday andFriday from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
