LUDINGTON — The urology practice of Daniel Reum, DO, has become part of Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital (SHLH), effective March 1, 2015.  The office is now officially known as Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital Urology and will remain in its current location in the medical office building attached to the hospital.

The agreement was signed by hospital President Mark Vipperman and Dr. Reum, who has practiced urology in Ludington since 1990 and is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Urological Surgery.

Dr. Reum’s decision continues a trend for area physicians to affiliate with larger medical organizations, hospital officials noted. Several practices have integrated with the hospital in recent months. Dr. Reum is now a member of the Spectrum Health Medical Group. The urology office staff members are now employees of the hospital.

“We welcome Dr. Dan Reum and his practice to the hospital” said Jim Wincek, vice president of operations for SHLH.  “The increasing complexity and cost of operating an independent practice, along with the rigor of a solo practice call schedule, has made the choice to affiliate more and more attractive for physicians. Our role is to provide additional resources and support for the doctors and their staffs so they can provide maximum focus on their patients.

“We believe this integration will benefit our community by providing patients continued access to a familiar specialist close to home,” Wincek added. “Being more closely linked with the Spectrum Health system and the other specialists in the medical group enhances the benefit.

“We are communicating this change to Dr. Reum’s patients, assuring them of continued excellence of care and technology for all patients.”

Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital Urology offers comprehensive testing, treatment, and follow-up care for diseases of the bladder, kidneys, urinary tract and reproductive organs.

The urology office is located in suite 205 of the hospital’s medical office building in Ludington. The phone number is 231.845.5069.
