‘Fiddler on the Roof’ debuts tonight in Hart.

February 27, 2015
A review by Hannah Kostal, special to OCP.
Once again the Hart High School Drama Club has outdone itself, this time with a wonderful rendition of the classic, “Fiddler on the Roof.” I’m sure we’re all pretty familiar with the story: Tevye, a humble worker and the father of five daughters attempts to maintain his religious and cultural traditions and find his daughters good husbands as outside influences create obstacles in the family’s life. The performance utilizes a very simple set, but considering the setting of the story- 1905 Imperial Russia- it works perfectly and really draws attention to the family the story revolves around.
Every emotional string is pulled on in this play- there’s happiness, sadness, and of course, singing! While there is generally only a piano present in most of the Hart High School musicals, this time there was also a violinist and it added so much to the story and the overall feel of this play. As always, the Hart High School Drama Club puts on a truly excellent show and “The Fiddler on the Roof” is humorous, delightful, and a great performance for any age. If you’ve never encountered this story, this is the perfect way to be first introduced and if you loved the movie, you won’t want to miss this!
