SHELBY TWP. — Two people were hospitalized — one with life-threatening injuries  — following a head-on two-car crash on M-20 near 88th Avenue at approximately 8 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7.

“Troopers from the Hart post were dispatched to the scene and discovered that one of the drivers, a 19-year-old Hart man, was pinned in the wreckage of his vehicle,” an MSP press release states. “The trapped driver suffered life-threatening injuries and had to be extricated from his vehicle before being transported” to Mercy Health Lakeshore Campus in Shelby and was transferred to Mercy Health Hackley Campus in Muskegon for advanced care. He remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at the Shelby hospital, the press release states.

The crash remains under investigation, and “poor visibility and weather conditions may have been factors,” MSP states. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

Troopers were assisted at the crash scene by the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office, the Shelby-Benona Fire Department, and Oceana EMS.
