HART TWP. — Two people were injured in a single-vehicle crash in slippery conditions on southbound US-31 at the Taylor Road overpass on New Year’s Day at approximately 2:45 p.m.
The accident victims, a male and a female, were transported to Mercy Health Lakeshore Campus in Shelby, responders at the scene stated, and both appeared to have non-life-threatening injuries. The driver had to be extricated by Hart Area Fire Department Jaws of Life.
The vehicle, a black Ford F-150 pickup, apparently lost control on the slippery roadway and struck the overpass cement column. The Oceana County Sheriff’s Office and Oceana EMS also responded to the scene, which was cleared at 3:15 p.m.
Extreme cold temperatures and blowing snow made travel difficult Thursday.
Another personal injury accident was dispatched shortly after 3:30 p.m. that occurred on northbound US-31 near Shelby. Minor injuries were reported.
