SHELBY — David Markiewicz’s memory lives on through generous contributions made in the late 2005 Shelby High School graduate’s name, including $3,600 toward the purchase of new high school marching band uniforms.

A music lover, the donations made in David’s honor are designed to assist the Shelby district and New Era Christian School with expenses that aren’t covered in the annual schools’ budgets.

The David P. Markiewicz Memorial Fund, a fund within the Community Foundation of Oceana County, sponsored a golf scramble last September. The fundraiser provides money designated to benefit local music students who are pursuing their desire to learn and advance their music skills.

While doing this, it is the hope to keep David’s legacy alive in the community in which he spent his life. Because of friends, businesses and community who gave from their hearts, the fundraiser was success.

The David P Markiewicz Memorial Foundation recently presented the following gifts:

– $3,600 to the Shelby High School Music Program for the purchase of new marching band uniforms;

– $1,500 for equipment and supplies for New Era Christian School’s music program;

– $450 to Shelby Public Schools K-5 music program; and

– $450 to the Shelby Public Schools Middle and High School Choir program.
