A smokin’ good time

SILVER LAKE — The Apple & BBQ Cook-Off Festival is kicking into high gear this evening as a wonderful, smoky aroma fills the air. Competitors from all over the country in a Michigan-sanctioned Kansas City BBQ cook-off are getting their slow-cooked, savory meats underway.

Saturday is the main day of the event that celebrates feasting on scrumptious food.

The apple pie contest is set for tomorrow, along with a craft show, a classic vehicle and dune buggy show, barbecue eating contests, a 5K run/walk, children’s activities, food vendors, live entertainment and much more.

Keith Scott performed on the festival stage this afternoon, and Rocket Fuel Haulers are taking the stage this evening. North Country Flyers perform Saturday evening beginning at 5:30 p.m.
